Lowest Open for VIX Since 2/26/07

The VIX opened at 11.86 today, the first time it has opened below 12.00 since 2/26.

For those who may be interested, I will initiate a small long position in the VIX if it trades down to 11.16 at any point today. The VIX is currently trading at 11.52, a little bit above the 11.47 intra-day low.

Are you going to buy some VIX calls? I just bought some may 17s.
Also wanted to thank you for your blog. For a short-term SPY trader (and options on it), it's full of insight. Also thanks for the advice on how to start and keep a blog, something I've just started getting into.
Isam.

Good luck with the calls, lsam. With the VIX, I rely on system-driven signals for 95% of my trades, which is helping me with my "patience and discipline" mantra. It doesn't look like we will dip down to 11.16 today, but that's fine with me.

Good luck with the blog too...
