Just to be clear, with the exception of 1987 (not included in the chart), the recent VIX action is unprecedented in terms of the steepness of the climb over a short duration.
Also, note that all significant VIX spikes have been good buying opportunities and as a rule, the steeper the spike, the better the buying opportunity.

I agree this will be alright buying opp...but I think the volatility has entered a new paradigm.
